In the Stars May 27-June 3, 2012

by Cathy

The Sun continues to shine this week in the tropical sign of Gemini, highlighting
ideas and communications. The world around you may seem to be abuzz with more talk than usual. Insatiable curiosity is the Gemini theme song; this is a cosmic invitation is to call in more variety in your life.

This week heralds two big upcoming cosmic events that occur next week: a
lunar eclipse on Monday, June 4; and a rare transit of Venus across the Sun
on Tuesday, June 5.

Sunday, the 27th, bursts with creativity and sizzle from the Uranus sextile
aspect to the Sun and Mercury. The Kepler College (of astrology) graduation
took place this evening during the United Astrology Congress (UAC) in New Orleans in which I am participating. The Uranus-Sun/Mercury sextile is a great omen for the Kepler graduation as Uranus symbolizes astrology, and Mercury symbolizes learning. Conversations can be electric and inventive. Having been a past president of Kepler College, I appreciate the pioneering efforts of Kepler students, faculty, and administration to explore opportunity for all of us is to put ourselves in situations where interesting communication can occur, even if it’s to attend a book reading, something new and fun on YouTube.

Monday and Tuesday, May 28 and 29, the Moon is in Virgo – days to get a lot
accomplished. Virgo symbolizes organization and efficiency, order and
cleanliness. Make your list and set out to get a lot of things checked off
on your “to do” list these first two days of the week. The Moon’s flowing
aspects to Pluto and Mars give a big boost of productivity. These
days can be ones of astonishing accomplishment, so make the most of them. The Sun is in a flowing sextile aspect to Uranus, symbolizing innovation and freedom. So what you accomplish may do more than just diminish the “to do” list with check-offs: It should lead to better futures.

Wednesday and Thursday the Moon is in Libra, the air sign that symbolizes
harmony and beauty. However, Wednesday is the day of this week that the
Moon lights up the increasingly tight and intense Uranus-Pluto square. This
day will be prone to conflict and challenge, and may propel you toward
change that is being demanded in your life. The Sun and Moon are in a
harmonious trine in the evening, and this alignment may help to settle the
rumblings and difficulties that have been stirred up earlier in the day.
Wednesday is a day of action and, perhaps, friction. Thursday offers
harmonious planetary energy (Mercury and Venus trine) for smoothing over
Wednesday’s rough edges.

Friday and Saturday the Moon in Scorpio. Often we just want to stay at home
and have quiet, intimate evenings when the Moon is this fixed water sign
that symbolizes deep feelings and hidden mysteries. A Mercury-Venus conjunction makes Friday more uplifting than it might be otherwise. Some “down” time early in the weekend and romantic dinners with your beloved could be very satisfying.

The week ends on an optimistic note as the Moon moves into Sagittarius on
Sunday, June 3. With the Sun in Gemini and Moon in Sagittarius, signs
symbolizing learning, freedom, and discovery, it’s a good day for at least a
short trip to explore something new. It’s also a good day for socializing
with engaging, curious, and intelligent people. This day’s many different
aspects call for a break from routine. Yet, a flowing trine between Mercury
and Saturn can enable us to ground our thoughts and organize our lives,
particularly a good thing to do this day in preparation for Monday’s lunar
eclipse.

Moon Void-of-Course:

This is the time when the Moon makes its last aspect in one sign and before
it moves into the next zodiacal sign. It is considered a time that nothing
decided or begun at this time will come to fruition. It’s not a good time
to shop, or make an appointment or hold a meeting in which you want to have
specific outcomes. It’s better to process emails, take a walk, or
catch up on reading.

This week’s void Moon periods are mostly during the night in the United
States:

The only period in waking hours is Thursday evening, May 30, at 6:31 PM PDT
until 5:31 AM Friday morning.

In the Stars May 20-27, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Gemini Solar Eclipse

by Cathy

This week’s key word is COMMUNICATION, beginning with the Sun and the Moon moving into air sign Gemini and a big event:  the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini, exact Sunday, May 20, at 4:47 PM PDT.  This is an annular Solar
Eclipse in which a narrow ring of the Sun is visible beyond the mask of the Moon. The visible pathway is from the Chinese coast, the south of Japan, and
the Western Canada and United States. The Solar Eclipse is a powerful
alignment that may be seen on the West Coast, and may herald notable births
and deaths, both literally and symbolically. All things Gemini ruled are
highlighted:  communication, media, transportation, social and cultural
trends, games, crafts, community, curiosity, networking, siblings, and all
kinds of media (print, audio, video, and social). The Moon is Void-of-Course
all day Sunday from 5:35 AM to 4:05 PM.  Take it easy; stay grounded on this
super charged day.

Monday’s brilliant conjunction of Jupiter and Mercury fosters expansive thinking and communication. Be observant about the words and connections
that intersect with your life, and be ready to take advantage of opportunities that may come out of conversations.

On Tuesday, Venus is conjunct the Moon in Gemini, which will foster pleasant,
agreeable conversations. The Moon is Void-of-Course Tuesday evening; you may
meander on your way home from work.

Wednesday contains the Moon’s weekly hard aspects to the Uranus-Pluto
square.  The chaos, angst, and surprises that may occur also invite expanded
consciousness and change.

Mercury enters Gemini on Thursday, where it is high functioning, for Gemini is the sign Mercury rules.  Intelligent and flexible thinking abound during Mercury’s brief stay in its home sign…until June 7.  This is a good time to take a class, study a foreign language, or write a blog.  Anything on your list of goals having to do with communication or media can be easily achieved during the next two weeks.

Friday morning the Moon and Jupiter are in a flowing sextile.  The Moon is
Void-of-Course from 7:34 AM until 3:11 PM PDT, when the Moon enters the
playful sign of Leo.  Don’t push the river during the void period, but it
will be a fabulous Friday by the second half of the day.  The fun-loving exuberance of the Moon in Leo will permeate the whole weekend.  Let the jollies roll out through playfulness and partying.  Mental stimulation will be high on Sunday and fresh ideas will pour forth with the Moon sextile to Uranus.

This is the week to write, speak, make phone calls, handle email, and network. Call your sister!  Write an interesting post on Facebook and check out what’s there.  Short trips are also symbolized by Gemini. Plan to see some new sights in your neighborhood.  I’ll be sightseeing, studying, and conversing in New Orleans with over 1000 astrologers from around the world at the United Astrology Congress.  Not surprisingly, it seems the astrologers picked a great week for the conference.

Moon Void-of-Course (time is for Pacific Daylight Time):

This is when the Moon makes its last major aspect with another planet and
before it enters the next zodiacal sign.  During this time you may wobble
with indecision, and it is difficult to make things happen.  It can even be
hard to decide what to wear!  During this time it is best to read a book,
take a walk, watch a movie, or clean house.  This week’s void periods are:

Sunday, May 20:              5:35 AM-4:05 PM (Moon enters Gemini)

Tuesday, May 22:            3:51 PM to Wednesday, May 23 at 4:31 AM (Moon enters Cancer)

Friday, May 25:                7:34 AM-3:11 PM (Moon enters Leo)

Sunday, May 27:              4:54-11:06 PM (Moon enters Virgo)

In the Stars May 13-20, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Solar Eclipse

by Cathy Coleman:  ccoleman9@comcast.net

The BIG news this week is the annular eclipse of the Sun (at 0:21 Gemini) that
occurs at the end of our week on Sunday, May 20.  An annular eclipse is when a narrow ring of the Sun is visible beyond the dark mask of the Moon. This exact eclipse occurs Sunday at 4:47 PM PDT, but this particular eclipse has an unusually long duration of nearly six hours and a very wide path.  It will be visible on the coast of China, the south of Japan, and Western Canada and United States. This is the first eclipse of the 21st century where the central line of the umbra passes through the continental United States.

Meanwhile, Sunday the 13th is a buoyant day, with Jupiter conjunct the Sun, and the day has quite a lot going on (Mars trine Pluto at 8-9 Virgo/Capricorn, and Jupiter inconjunct Saturn) in astral energies.  Those of us with planets in 6-10 degrees of earth signs Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, get a mega dose of energy!  Jupiter gives a boost of expansion to whatever it touches.  Mercury makes several aspects this day (to Mars, Pluto, and Venus), highlighting conversations that matter and that may help to make a better world. You could consciously draw in this energy by engaging in conscious and intentional conversations that
matter.  The Moon moves into Pisces through Monday, opening our hearts with
hope and compassion.

Venus turns retrograde Tuesday, motion that continues through June 28.  Planetary retrograde motion offers re-assessment of the area of influence of the planet in retrograde.  In this case, Venus has to do with values, money, resources, and one’s love life. This retrograde period offers opportunities to re-connect. Many astrologers will be re-connecting at the United Astrology
Congress in New Orleans May 23-29.  June weddings and family and class
reunions offer other opportunities for re-connections.  Make the most of it!Tuesday morning until 2:45 PM PDT Tuesday afternoon the Moon is Void-of-Course, so stick to clean-up and filing rather than making decisions or setting anything new in motion during this time. Tuesday afternoon through Thursday the Moon is in fiery cardinal sign Aries, the sign of action and getting things started, the beginning of a new lunar cycle through the zodiac.  Wednesday is that punctuated day of the week when the Moon combines with Uranus and Pluto to stir things up.  Be ready for surprises and the stirring of the pot.  A Mars/Pluto trine helps to ground the energies that are stirred up and to direct them constructively. Thursday is more calm than Wednesday, though there’s still plenty of movement and energy for getting things going. Be ready to be active.  More vigorous exercise when the Moon is in Aries is a way to bow to the offerings of the planetary gods.

From Friday through Sunday (until 4:05 PM) the Moon is in Taurus, the sign in
which it is exalted, or highest functioning.  You can draw drawn the extra sweetness of the Taurus Moon and sprinkle your world with a little extra art, color and fragrance, literally or figuratively. This would be a very good thing to do consciously, as it’s uncertain what may come with the Sunday’s Solar Eclipse.

Now…back to our supreme alignment:  Sunday, the 20th, is a BIG (and potentially unstable) day,  with the Sun moving into mercurial air sign Gemini at 8:16 AM PDT, the Moon Void-of-Course all day from 5:35 AM-4:05 PM PDT, a six-hour annular solar eclipse, and the Moon moving into Gemini at 4:05, forming an exact New Moon Solar Eclipse at 4:47 PM.  The Solar Eclipse may herald notable births and deaths, change, and transformation,.  Large mergers, transactions, sell-offs, and big new beginnings abound.  The Institute of Noetic Sciences, where I am Executive Director of its EarthRise Conference and Retreat
Center, is appointing a new President/CEO, Steve Villano, who will start May
21, the day after the eclipse.  This is just one example of important new beginnings. Look around you and see what it dying and birthing, what the
planetary energy is setting in motion. A mixture of brilliant new ideas and
scattered, nervous energy will likely abound. Conversation, curiosity, and
communication are key concepts for Gemini.  This would be a great day for
writing, brainstorming, and having conversations.  It’s NOT a good day for
clarifying things or making decisions.  So make the most of the intensity of
this eclipse that highlights the themes of variety and curiosity.  Play with
words in new ways, whether in conversation, reading, or writing. Explore, observe, think, talk, learn.

Moon Void-of-Course Periods This Week (in Pacific Daylight Time) (the time between when the Moon makes its last major aspect and when it moves into the next sign), a time to do anything not requiring definitive decision making and clear judgment:

Tuesday, March 15:        4:59 AM-2:45 PM when Moon goes into Aries

Thursday, May 17:          2:44 PM-Friday morning 3:03 AM when Moon goes
into Taurus

Sunday, May 20:              5:35 AM-4:05 PM when Moon goes into Gemini

In the Stars May 6-13, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Lots of activity in Taurus

by Cathy

The Sun in Taurus continues through May 20 to highlight finances, resources,
nature, and beauty.  These spring May days I love watching the new green
leaves filling out the trees, and as the trees become more and more lush they offer more shade, more beauty, and more oxygen to the planet. This is a
metaphor for the symbolism of Taurus, a fixed earth sign that corresponds
with productivity, growth, wealth, and sweetness.  The Sun in Taurus is also
joined by Jupiter and the asteroids Vesta and Ceres, and on Tuesday the 8th, Mercury moves into this fixed earth sign as well.  All these planets in Taurus…combined with Mars and Pluto in earth signs Virgo and Capricorn, respectively…give an abundance of earth energy.  Productivity and manifestation are easier than usual now.  Focus on finances, work, gardening, and body work
could have big payoffs. In addition to all you can accomplish now, take time
to enjoy life’s sweet and simple pleasures.

The Moon is starting its waning cycle now after Saturday’s glorious big Full
Moon, the time now for completing projects started at the New Moon cycle
that began April 21. The Moon’s entry into sunny Sagittarius on Monday
morning gets the week started with an extra dose of optimism and inspiration.  Mars and Uranus make an edgy aspect (quincunx) and could throw in some explosive surprises.  The slow and steady energy of the several planets in Taurus can help keep you grounded. Lively conversations may generate big new ideas on Tuesday, a day with overall pleasant energy.

The Moon in Capricorn Wednesday and Thursday punctuates the abundance of
earth energy.  Wednesday is the day of the week when the Moon highlights the
volatile Uranus-Pluto square.  The day may not go as planned, and we all can
be stirred up by Moon’s connection with the ongoing Uranus-Pluto square
(between 6-10 degrees of cardinal signs Aries and Capricorn). On days such
as this when there is more challenging energy to navigate, be open to chaos
and challenges, and pay attention to what is rumbling inside of you calling
for change. Thursday will be more easy going, and the rough edges will be a
little softer, though Saturn opposite the Moon demands attention to the tedious details of getting work done and achieving goals.

Friday and Saturday the Moon is in sociable air sign Aquarius.  A Sun-Uranus
aspect (semi-square) on Saturday calls for innovation and creativity.  Plan
to do something new and different from your usual routine on the weekend. On
Sunday May 13, there is a lot going on with bold planetary aspects (Sun conjunct
Jupiter at 23 Taurus; Mercury/Mars/Pluto in a grand earth trine at 8-9
degrees of Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn;  and Saturn inconjunct Jupiter at 23-24 Taurus/Libra).  The Moon is conjunct Neptune in Pisces and opposes Mars.  You’ll be able to vision a better future.  Allow for enlivening conversations.  Go forth and have a productive and prosperous week.

Moon Void-of-Course:

This is the time that the Moon makes its last major aspect with another
planet and until it moves into the next sign.  During this time it is hard
to make clear decisions, and decisions made often turn out to be
unsatisfactory and subject to change later.  So it’s best to process routine
email, pull weeds in your garden, read an article, or take a walk–anything
not calling for clear thinking and decision making, or for setting something
in motion.

Moon Void-of-Course periods of note this week (all noted in Pacific Daylight
Time);

Sunday, May 6: 5:14 AM to 6:39 PM (when Moon enters Sagittarius)

Thursday, May 10:          12:11 PM to 10:03 PM (when Moon enters Aquarius)

Saturday, May 12 at 5:52 PM to Sunday, May 13 at 4:42 AM

In the Stars April 29-May 6…shining light on the astrology of the week: Full Moon

by Cathy

The Moon is in playful Leo Sunday, April 29, through Monday afternoon.  With
the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Leo, walks in nature and fun, social
activities are invited.

The theme for this week is clean-up and order.  The Virgo Moon rolls in on
Monday afternoon at 4:02 PM PDT, continuing through Wednesday at 7:04 PM
PDT, highlighting themes of cleaning, organization, practicality,
efficiency, and attending to details. Aspects to Neptune soften this
sometimes too-critical and hard-working energy, offering tenderness and
inspiration toward the accomplishment of this week’s goals. There are four full
days the Moon is void-of-course this week,  offering a lot of time for finishing things, rather than starting things, and attending to details that need to be
handled. Adding to the reasons to make clean-up and organization your theme of the week is that there is a Solar Eclipse on May 20, and a good way to prepare for an eclipse is to put your life in order, so that with a well-ordered life you will have more time and space to relax into the darkening light of the eclipse.

A grand earth trine between the Mars in Virgo, Pluto in Capricorn, and the
Sun in Taurus (with Jupiter nearby) continues its great offering this week
of practical productivity, making it easier to accomplish a lot more than
usual if you do the work.  The Moon joins this trio on Tuesday, adding a
bonus of light to this powerful triangle.

Thursday and Friday the Moon will be in the relational, romantic air sign Libra.
While Libra symbolizes harmony, the Moon makes its weekly connections with
Uranus and Pluto on Thursday, pushing a rumble of change that may feel less
than soft and harmonious.  However, the rumbling calls out any deep changes
that may need to be considered. Friday is softened by a pleasant Moon-Venus trine in the morning, and a dreamy, inspiring Moon-Neptune trine in the evening. However, in the middle of the day this glow may be reined in by an opposition of the Moon to Saturn, calling for responsibility, duty, and commitment.  The good news is that the sharp edges of the weekly encounters of the Moon with Uranus-square-Pluto, and with Saturn (in opposition) that occur this week on Thursday and Friday, are softened and sprinkled with some sweetness.

Saturday and Sunday the Moon is in Scorpio, the fixed water sign that
symbolizes the depths of anything: deep thought, deep feelings, and deep
insight.  These days you might also mine any deep resentments or attachments than could come to the surface with greater understanding and vision. The deep
waters of the Moon’s movement through Scorpio may be exaggerated on Sunday
with Jupiter in opposition to the Moon.  The Full Moon is exact Saturday
evening at 8:35 PM PDT.  It’s the second of five SuperMoons this year, which
intensifies the electromagnetic fields of the Earth and its inhabitants due
to the Moon’s close proximity to the Earth. Because this Moon is perigee, or
the closest that it comes to the Earth, it will be the largest Full Moon of
the year. It will be a beauty, so plan to be in places where you can
visually soak in its glorious glow in the night sky over the weekend.  Full
Moons are awesome visual images, and psychologically they call for us to
open to the fullness and possibilities of our lives, and to relate more
openly to others. Following the Full Moon, it’s time to move into the waning
lunar cycle and work on completing the new projects that you set in motion
at the New Moon April 21.

The intense energy of Scorpio will be uplifted when the Moon moves into
fiery, independent, uplifting Sagittarius Sunday evening.  Top off the
weekend with a Moonlight walk to enjoy the glorious big Full Moon.

This week has an inordinate amount of time when the Moon is Void-of-Course;
four out of seven days it is void most of our waking hours in the United
States.  This is the time when the Moon makes its last major aspect in one
sign and before it moves into the next sign.  For example, on Monday, April
30, the Leo Moon sextiles Saturn at 7:17 AM.  It then makes no other exact
major (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, or opposition) with another
planet before it moves into the sign of Virgo at 4:02 PM Pacific Daylight
Time. During this time when there is no applying angular motion, it is
difficult to make clear decisions; judgment can be cloudy.  The
Void-of-Course periods are good for cleaning house, putting order in your
office, handling routine email, reading a book, or taking a walk.  Make the
most of these ample void Moon periods this week by doing more of these sorts
of activities rather than powering through meetings and appointments.  These
are good times for more soft reflection.

Moon Void-of-Course Periods This Week (times in PDT-Pacific Daylight Time;
add 3 hours for EDT)

Monday, April 30:  7:17 AM-4:02 PM

Wednesday, May 2:  3:58 AM-7:04 PM

Friday, May 4: 11:02 AM-7:20 PM

Sunday, May 6:  5:14 AM-6:39 PM

In the Stars, April 22-29, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week

By Cathy

Sunday the 22nd is a high-spirited day to do something new involving themes of art and beauty, and open yourself up to the surprises and new ideas that may come from conversation or that  may just burst forth in your mind.  I’ll be expressing and opening to these energies at an art reception Sunday afternoon for Al Longo’s Inner Landscapes exhibit at EarthRise Center at IONS where I work. The New Moon, exact on Saturday, the 21st, has ushered in a cycle for new beginnings.  Given that Sunday the 22nd is Earth Day, resolve over this solar month of Taurus to spend more time walking in nature and making a greater commitment in your life to protecting our planet through more sustainable lifestyle practices.  Be sure to take a look at the evening sky, as it will be lit with the joining of the New Moon first with Jupiter, and then with Venus on Tuesday. The Moon is Void-of-Course all day through to Monday morning at 10:05 AM PDT.

Monday the work week begins with the Moon moving into Gemini at 10:04 AM PDT, highlighting themes of conversation, curiosity, variety, and flexibility.  It can be hard to concentrate on one thing, but if you’re willing to jump around from one thing to another, you can get a lot of things accomplished. The Sun makes an exact trine to Mars and both form a grand trine with Pluto, making for a very powerful combination in earth signs, an aspect that will be present throughout the week.  Combining the practicality and grounded energy of this powerful grand earth trine with the versatility of the Moon in Gemini aspecting Uranus can make for a very productive, amazing day.

Tuesday’s energy is tranquil, yet productive.  Be sure draw in the awe and beauty of the New Moon conjunct Venus in the evening’s night sky!  The visual itself will set the stage for the romance and delight this pairing offers.

On Wednesday Mercury makes a testy square to Pluto, encouraging deep discussions that could be productive if the energy is used well. If power struggles are involved, interactions could be difficult, but issues may be brought to the surface that need to be resolved. Wednesday afternoon at 1:31 PM PDT the Moon is Void-of-Course through the evening, so don’t plan to do things that require definitive decisions in the afternoon and evening.

Thursday and Friday the Moon is in Cancer, highlighting home, family, and nurturing.  Yet, it’s that time of the week when the Moon aspects the Uranus-Pluto square, so it can be a volatile day, and one prone to stressful communication.  The weekly punch with challenging aspects to Uranus and Pluto occurs on Thursday, and may be emotionally challenging. It may call for you to move you out of your comfort zone and toward changes that need to be made in your life. Friday will feel a lot easier with the boost of Jupiter’s flowing aspect to the Moon. A dose of optimism will help you move forward in a positive direction with the issues that have surface.

Saturday and Sunday the Moon is in playful Leo—the perfect energy for weekend frolic and fun.  Good luck arrives with the Moon-Uranus trine Saturday evening calling for something different Saturday evening such as a dinner party with new friends, the exploration of a new restaurant, or something unusual that will inspire you and transport you to new discoveries.  The powerful energy of the grand earth trine in place all week is punctuated with an exact trine of the Sun and Pluto on Sunday.  It could be a particularly powerful day, so use the potential wisely and make the most of it.

Moon Void-of-Course:

This is the time that the Moon makes its last major aspect with another planet and until it moves into the next sign.  During this time it is hard to make clear decisions, and decisions made often turn out to be unsatisfactory and subject to change later.  So it’s best to process routine email, pull weeds in your garden, read an article, or take a walk–anything not calling for clear thinking and decision making, or for setting something in motion. In the Stars, April 15-22, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon in Taurus

by Cathy

As I write this blog our new gardener at IONS’ EarthRise Center, Jake Daigle, is installing a beehive in our permaculture garden in preparation for the arrival of bees on Monday.  The intentional arrival of a hive of bees on the land is a good metaphor for the astrology of this week. So get with the week through the analogy of the bees!

On Monday, April 16, Mercury  enters Aries, enlivening perspectives and opening channels of communication.  There will be a noticeable buzz of excitement in the air. This movement begins the new annual cycle for the planet of thought and communication; it will be buzzing in the fire sign Aries until May 9.  Monday and Tuesday, the Moon in Pisces symbolizes dreams, imagination, and inspiration.  The Moon is Void-of-Course all day on Tuesday, starting at 7:34 AM PDT and continuing for more than 24 hours through to 9 AM Wednesday.  You can expect to have  a hard time making decisions or moving yourself in a clear forward direction.  It would be a good day to allow yourself some daydreaming time and to read a book, walk in nature, write a poem, or play some music.  Be reflective.

Wednesday,  Thursday, and Friday the Moon is in Aries, adding to the buzz started with Mercury’s arrival there on Monday.  On Wednesday the Moon also joins Uranus.  Insights and breakthroughs could pour forth from this structure of energies, with a few surprises sprinkled into the mix.  This could be an exciting…as well as volatile day.  Watch what you say…think twice before speaking.  A bonus Thursday is that the Moon makes a flowing sextile with Taurus’ ruler, Venus, adding pleasure and a comfortable, grounded energy to the day.  Friday may be a somber, introspective day, as the Moon opposes Saturn. Further, this is “the dark of the Moon,” the time just before the new Moon. The Moon is Void-of-Course for another long period from 12:35-9:05 PM PDT.  Wrap up the work week by answering routine email, clearing clutter, and organizing your work.  You may want to have a quiet night at home on Friday evening.

The Sun moves from Aries to the fixed earth sign of Taurus on Thursday, ushering in the solar month corresponding with nature, beauty, and life’s sensual pleasures such as food, flowers, and fragrance. Two days later – on Saturday the 21st – the Moon moves into Taurus, combining with the Sun at the first degree of Taurus for a New Moon.  Honor this New Moon and the Taurean month ahead by gracing your home and office with fresh flowers, planting flowers and vegetables, and scheduling at least one massage or otherwise literally “reaching out to touch” other human beings.  This is a time to slow down and pamper yourself with the pleasures of life—and to enjoy them! This new Moon combines with the grand earth trine of Jupiter (in Taurus), Mars (in Virgo), and Pluto (in Capricorn) to make for a very productive weekend. Our new bees will be starting to make sweet honey at this New Moon.  Metaphorically, what sweet honey can you make in your life? Bees collect nectar a mini-drop at a time.  Honey is the end result of incalculable effort.

Sunday could be a very creative, inspiring day, with the Sun in a flowing sextile to Neptune, and with Mercury and Uranus conjunct in fiery Aries.  This is a high-frequency day, yet the Moon is Void-of-Course all day starting at 10:10 AM PDT.  Be creative and inspired, though know that it’s not a great day for decisive action.

Moon Void-of-Course:  The time I between the Moon’s last aspect to a planet and its movement into the next zodiacal sign the Moon is considered Void-of-Course.  It’s a time when energy isn’t clearly directed and when it is difficult to make definitive and lasting decisions. This week has a large amount of void-of-course time because there are many planets in the early degrees of a sign.  There are two 24-hour void periods Tuesday the 17th and Sunday the 22nd, and two long periods on Sunday the 15th and Friday the 20th.   During the Moon Void-of-Course periods its best not to try to accomplish anything requiring decisive action. It’s best to respond to email, clean your car or home, catch up on reading, or take a walk. The Moon void-of-Course times this week are:

Sunday, April 15 3:42-10:38 PM PDT

Tuesday, April 17: 7:34 AM-Thursday, April 18 at 8:59 AM PDT

Friday, April 20:  12:35-9:05 PM PDT

Sunday, April 22:  10:10 AM through Monday, April 23 at 10:05 AM

In the Stars April 8-15, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Mars and Pluto Changing Direction

By Cathy

This week will be a  powerful one with the power planets Pluto and Mars changing direction.  When a planet changes direction, the few days at the beginning of the shift amplifies the energy of the planet.  Pluto turns retrograde on Tuesday, March 10, and will move in retrograde motion for five months until September 16.  This movement particularly affects those with personal planets from 6-9 degrees in the cardinal signs of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, and Libra.  It’s time to look deeply within regarding issues of power and control, and release patterns that no longer serve you.  On April 13 Mars moves forward after being in retrograde motion since January 24.  Its long stay in Virgo continues to give us the opportunity transform health habits for the better, and this will be easier to do with Mars in direct motion.  Mercury, the planet of communication, is in dreamy Pisces this one more week before it moves into fiery Aries on April 16.

Ceres, the dwarf planet symbolizing grain and nourishment, enters the sign of Taurus on Monday, the 9th. Ceres works together with Pluto in Capricorn and Mars in Virgo in a mutually supportive way.  Ceres will be in the sign of Taurus until June 24, making for a very fertile planting season through this time. In our personal life we can benefit by asking what do we want to plant and nourish for ourselves?

Monday starts the week on an upbeat note with the Moon moving into Sagittarius Monday morning at 8:13 AM PDT with the expansive, adventurous energy of Sagittarius continuing through Tuesday. Monday’s flowing aspects between Venus and Uranus and the Moon could make for some pleasant surprises.

Tuesday evening’s flowing trine between the Sun in Aries and Moon in Sagittarius makes a great backdrop for a high spirited, buoyant evening.

Wednesday through Friday afternoon the Moon is in Capricorn, and this is the time of the week when the Moon’s cycle highlights the powerful positive productive thrust of the earth trines of Jupiter in Taurus, Pluto in Capricorn, and Mars in Virgo, as well as the very difficult Pluto/Uranus square in the cardinal signs of Capricorn and Aries respectively.  It’s the weekly boost of powerful energy if you are willing to move with the pulses of change.  This may be a particularly volatile time with Mars and Pluto changing directions.  These would be good mornings for walks to center yourself and self-reflect.  Be ready with your best skills of diplomacy and collaboration if a testy or volatile situation emerges.

Friday afternoon through Sunday the Moon is in Aquarius, highlighting friendships, groups, and humanitarian concerns.  The Aquarius Moon makes a flowing aspect to sweet Venus in the morning.  Stop and smell the flowers.  I’ll be having brunch at Santa Rosa’s Zazu restaurant with some friends from work to benefit the Ceres Project, an outstanding project that employs teen volunteers to make and distribute nourishing meals for cancer patients. This event is very well aligned with the support of the planets as Aquarius symbolizes groups, friends, and volunteer service work, and Ceres will have just moved into Taurus, the sign symbolizing food and nourishment.  If you live in the North Bay area, you can participate in this delicious breakfast fundraiser in which 100% of the proceeds go to the Ceres Project (707-523-4814 for reservations).

Saturday evening would be a good time to get together with friends and acquaintances.

On Sunday the Sun in Aries opposes Saturn in Libra, calling for responsibility and discipline.  With the addition of a flowing trine from the Moon to serious Saturn, you could align yourself with the abundant potential productive energy and get a lot accomplished, if you apply the works.

Moon Void-of-Course

The Moon is Void-of-Course when it makes its last aspect with another planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign.  During this time decision making is difficult, and decisions often turn out not to hold or to work.  Little usually comes of matters initiated during a Moon Void-of-Course period, so it’s best not to initiate things that matter, make purchases, or hold meetings where you expect decisions and outcomes.  It is better to respond to email not requiring decisions, clear clutter, take a walk, or catch up on reading. There are four 4-5 hour Moon Void-of-Course periods next week, one every other day, with Wednesday’s and Friday’s void periods most affecting those living in the Eastern time zone, and Friday’s and Sunday’s most affecting those living in the Pacific time zone.

Monday, April 9:           2:56 11:12 AM EDT (goes out of void and into Sagittarius 8:12 AM PDT)

Wednesday, April 11:    4:05-10:02 AM PDT (7:05 AM-1:02 PM EDT)

Friday, April 13:              10:05 AM-2:48 PM PDT (1:05-5:48 PM EDT)

Sunday, April 15:             3:42-10:38 PM PDT

In the Stars April 1-8, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Full Moon

By Cathy

The beginning of the week is energized Sunday and Monday with the Moon in playful Leo and the Sun in fiery Aries. A square to Jupiter Monday morning may pump us up with optimism about how much we might accomplish this week, and the optimism may be more exaggerated than results we can deliver.

However, the Virgo Moon on Tuesday and Wednesday will help us to accomplish many of our goals.  This time of the lunar month – when efficiency and accomplishment peak – tends to be my “favorite” time, a regular boost I relish.  The moon’s opposition to Neptune offers inspiration and vision if we open up to it, and the Moon’s additional connection with the grand earth trine (Jupiter in Taurus, Mars in Virgo, and Pluto in Capricorn) Tuesday makes a very productive day possible. Venus moves into the sign of Gemini in the tropical zodiac on Tuesday, where it will stay for over four months until August 8, as it will be retrograde May15 to June 27.  This is an unusually long stay in Gemini, as Venus generally resides
in a sign for several weeks.  Venus in Gemini will stir curiosity, and you will undoubtedly find yourself engaged in more social activity than usual, whether talking with a stranger in line at the grocery store or floating the room at a party.

Mercury is stationary, meaning almost at a standstill, now as it turns direct Wednesday morning.  Although there still could be a lot of confusing communication and technical breakdowns early in the week, communication will begin midweek to break free from the confusion and errors of the retrograde period.
If you’re on the verge of making travel plans or signing papers for a loan or contract, wait until at least Wednesday to do so. Mercury is in dreamy Pisces until April 16,which fosters tuning in to our intuition and feelings.

Thursday and Friday the Moon is in Libra, the sign that symbolizes harmony, beauty, and balance.  However, Thursday is the day this week when the Moon also makes challenging aspects with Uranus and Pluto, which can be de-stabilizing and explosive. Go easy Thursday, and be extra careful not to get emotionally triggered. At the same time, outmoded patterns of relating can be moved to change.

The Full Moon Friday highlights relationships (Libra Moon) and independence (Sun in Aries).  The gravitational pull on the tides, tectonic plates, and our psyches will be strong as this is a SuperMoon, one where the Moon is in perigee, closest to Earth, and syzygy, in line with the Sun and Earth.  It’s
the first of five SuperMoons this year. Full Moons call for us to expand what was started at the New Moon, which was March 22, and then to reflect, and bring projects to closure before the next New Moon that is April 21. Full Moons illuminate the shadow sides of the signs involved.  The shadow side of Libra
settles for peace at any price, and the shadow side of Aries is aggression. The opportunities of this full Moon are to recognize your own needs and to bring relationships into better balance

Saturday and Sunday the Moon is in Scorpio, the sign symbolizing the depths of emotion.  Strong feelings can be stirred.  A Venus/Mars square may generate some interpersonal friction, and yet favorable aspects of the Moon Saturday evening to Neptune, Mars, and Pluto will help smooth out any jagged edges and can foster a passionate evening. Sunday’s biggest challenge may be the tendency to overindulge in pleasure.  There’s a lot of flowing energy to foster the positive expression of feelings.

Moon Void-of-Course

The Moon is Void-of-Course occurs when it has just made its last aspect to a planet in one sign and before it moves into the next sign. During this time, it is difficult to make clear decisions, and things that are initiated often turn out not to work out or manifest.  Items purchased usually need to be returned or turn out not to be what you really wanted. There are only two periods this week, not affecting much waking time for those on the West coast, but for those in the Eastern time zone, Thursday and Saturday
mornings are affected. It can be hard to decide what to wear when the Moon is Void-of-Course, and you may find yourself changing your mind several times.  You might want to lay out your clothes, and have everything ready to go for the next day on Wednesday and Friday evenings, so that you can breeze
through the Moon Void-of-Course time Thursday and Saturday morning without having to deal with indecision and confusion.

This Week’s Void-of-Course times:

Wednesday, April 4,  10:37 PM through Thursday at 8:23 AM PDT (1:37 AM-11:32
AM EDT Thursday)

Saturday, April 7, 3:15-8:18 AM PDT (6:15-11:18 EDT)

In the Stars March 25-April 1, 2012…shining light on the astrology of the week: Mercury continues retrograde

By Cathy

The Sun remains in bold Aries this week, shining light on adventures…sheperding initiatives…taking risks.  Mercury is still retrograde until April 4, making communication prone to mistakes and mix-ups, so when
Trickster Hermes (Mercury) gives you a serving of confusion amid all this forward motion, chuckle at the inevitable and move on. The Mercury retrograde period calls for re-evaluating, re-working, re-negotiating, re-making, and renovating.

Sunday, March 25 offers a sweet productive day, a good day to do spring
cleaning and plant new flowers; if you live in the Bay area, you’ll want to focus indoors on this very rainy day.  The grand trine in earth (Mars in Virgo, Pluto in Capricorn, and Jupiter in Taurus) is punctuated by the Taurus Moon. Just about any project you engage with this day will benefit from this powerful, practical, grounded alignment. Yet, there are also some destabilizing aspects. The Sun and Mars angular (inconjunct) can make us prone to impatience seeking perfection, or alternatively, haste pursuing efficiency.  We might find ourselves wanting take the time for a special dinner of several homemade courses with loved ones yet be tugged the other direction by the desire to get in a little more work before the day ends!

The atmosphere Monday is enhanced with both a Moon/Venus conjunction and a Moon/Mercury sextile. Express love and affection. Conversations or writing can be fulfilling along these lines.

Tuesday and Wednesday the Moon is in Gemini.  You’ll feel the urge to move
and connect with others.  Curiosity is heightened, and you may be easily
distracted.

Thursday holds a challenging Sun-Pluto square which may stir up power
struggles, or may empower you to make some movement and clean up some things in your life.  The Moon moves into Cancer at 4:07 PM PDT, setting up possibilities for an inspirational evening (Moon trine Neptune).

Friday is that time of the week when the Moon ignites the powerful change
energy of the Pluto/Uranus square.  While this can call forth volatility and
explosiveness, it can also provide that extra push to make changes that
are necessary.  If you can be conscious about dealing with what you want to
change, or what actually IS changing in your life, then you can utilize
this powerful energy to move things along in a helpful way.  Each week now
we have the opportunity to work with the Moon’s alignment with the grand
earth trine (Sunday, March 25) and with the Moon’s alignment with the
Uranus/Pluto square (Friday, March 30). These are days when progress and change actualize for those who direct these energies.

Saturday is mixed:  A Moon/Saturn square can make us feel edgy and
challenged, but other flowing alignments Saturday bring thoughtfulness and
reason (Moon/Mercury trine). The evening is graced with a wonderful
Moon-Venus sextile.  With the Moon in Cancer and Venus in Taurus, it would be a lovely evening for a dinner party. You would enjoy cooking, and your guests
would love your food!

The week ends (or a new one begins) on Sunday, April 1, an “April Fool’s Day” that you might really open to affectionate mischief.  The planetary line-up is perfect for engaging in some fun on this traditional day, celebrated in many countries world-wide with light-hearted pranks and tricks. The Moon is in fiery, playful Leo, makes a sweet sextile with  Venus, and trines in harmony with Uranus.  All together, the potential is to have some surprising, pleasant fun.  Knowing this, you could create your own bold, playful day.  Surprise a loved one
with tickets for special theater or a pleasant experience you’ve never had
before. Or gather friends for a spontaneous picnic and games.  Allow space
in this day for creativity and the appreciation of irony.

Moon Void-of-Course

This is the time that the Moon makes its last major aspect with another planet and until it moves into the next sign.  During this time it is hard to make clear decisions, and decisions made often turn out to be unsatisfactory and subject to change later.  So it’s best to process routine email, pull weeds in your garden, read an article, or take a walk–anything not calling for clear thinking and decision making, or for setting something in motion.

This week’s only VOC time fully in our waking hours in the United States:
