In the Stars December 6-13, 2015…shining light on the astrology of the week: New Moon

Sunday promises to be an active, edgy day. Mars squares Pluto; it is an explosive energy that needs to be channeled determinedly and productively. The Sun makes a benefic sextile to Mars, so put this fast, vibrant, explosive energy to good use. Drive projects forward. Steer clear of confrontation and conflict. The Moon is VoC Sunday evening, so enjoy a beautiful dinner and make it an easy, flowing end to a delightful and productive weekend.

From Monday through mid-day Wednesday, a Scorpio Moon reigns. The Moon in this fixed water sign symbolizes intense feelings. We want to withdraw into deep quiet and solitude. The Moon is dark these few days before a New Moon on Friday, and this phase of the Moon makes us want to back off from the hustle and bustle of the world. With the Moon dark in Scorpio, it is a good time to get some body work. Tuesday is a highly energized day, even though, at the same time, we want time alone for deep thinking. The Sun is trine Uranus, so it may be a day with surprises. Though you may desire peace and solitude, unexpected events may rock your world.

The Moon is Void of Course nearly all day Wednesday until 2:25 PM PST, when the Moon moves into Sagittarius. During this VoC time, it is best to read, take a walk, or attend to routine tasks. The arrival of the Sagittarius Moon in the afternoon lifts our spirits. Then it is time to get moving! Mercury moves into Capricorn, encouraging practical, grounded thinking for the next three weeks.

The bright and happy Sag Moon lifts Thursday and Friday to new heights. Thursday is packed with dynamic aspects that are challenging, surprising, and energizing. One major aspect is Mars-opposite-Uranus. Be creative, and be careful! Another alignment on Thursday is Venus-trine-Neptune, an aspect that delivers inspiration and vision. Make the most of this awesome day, and open to your greatest potential.

The New Moon in Sagittarius (at 19:03 degrees Sagittarius) arrives Friday at 2:29 PM PST. New Moons call for intentions for new beginnings. Sagittarius symbolizes philosophy, travel, exploration, and higher learning. Consider what intentions you want to set in these areas of life. The Moon is square Jupiter, meaning we can get easily overextended. We reach for the stars, and in doing so we are stretching our capacities. Sometimes an extra dose of optimism and saying “yes” is a good thing. Know that the Capricorn Moon that follows the next two days will bring you back down to earth; also it can help you accomplish some of your far-reaching goals.

Saturday and Sunday are serious, somber days powered for productivity. Get organized, and get moving. These are days to get a lot accomplished, even though there are undoubtedly parties to attend. Saturday night’s energies are mixed. There is a Venus-Moon sextile that will bring out the best in people, and will bring joy to holiday gatherings. At the same time, the night is heating up with an intense and edgy cardinal T-square with the Moon (Moon conjunct Pluto, square to Uranus and Mars). Be sober, and drive safe. Head home early if you are out celebrating at holiday parties. Saturday night through Sunday morning rumbles with strong, tense energy. When the energies are strong and challenging, as these are, it is good to meet them with action, and exercise caution. Vigorous physical exercise is always good, as it utilizes the tension in a beneficial way. Much can be accomplished until 3:07 PM PST when the Moon trines Jupiter and goes Void of Course. This aspect will lighten up the evening. Wrap some holiday gifts, light a fire, and relax after the loud rumblings of weekend activity.

In closing, I have a good Void Moon story to share. Last Friday I had planned a holiday outing in San Francisco with two girlfriends. The Moon was Void of Course all day until 2:34 PM PST. Usually I would not plan outings on a VoC Moon when connections need to be made. However, this day and time was what worked for our schedules. We planned to gather and go to a certain restaurant for lunch. We got to the destination, and the restaurant wasn’t there. It had obviously gone out of business. We went to a second destination, and there was a long line and no place to sit. We went to a third destination, and after a wait, did get a table. When the Moon left its void space, and entered Libra mid-afternoon, we could feel the shift, and the rest of the afternoon’s activities fell gracefully into place.
The Week in Short:
Sunday: Work hard and get a lot accomplished. Steer clear of conflict. Enjoy a beautiful, mellow evening.
Monday: Draw inward and have a peaceful, inspired day.
Tuesday: Back off from the hustle and bustle of the world, but expect the unexpected.
Wednesday: Moon VoC until 2:25 PM PST. During that time attend to routine tasks and refrain from activities calling for decisions. After that, be inspired and engage in a fun, social evening.
Thursday: Extremely active day. Be conscious, creative, and careful.
Friday: New Moon in Sagittarius: Reach for the stars.
Saturday: Serious, productive day. Be sober and safe in the evening and rein in the partying.
Sunday: Edgy day. Use the strong, active energy to get a lot accomplished. Moon VoC after 3:07 PM PST, calling for a relaxed evening attending to routine tasks, or reading by the fire.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
