A number of important planetary shifts happened this past week that have set our stage. The Sun has moved into Pisces tropically; and Mars and Venus have arrived in fiery, dynamic, cardinal Aries–the first sign of the zodiac. The next five weeks contain a lot of high-octane energy for starting new regimes or projects. We’re just a three weeks away now from the precise Uranus-Pluto square of March 16, the last of these seven squares over the past few years pulsing with revolutionary change. The invitation still beckons for each of us personally to seize this opening to step firmly into the changes we want to make in our lives. Each week when the Moon highlights this square, there is a thrust of dynamic change energy available. Consciously use the weekly thrusts, augmented these next few weeks with helpful energies and aspects, to make the big changes in your life that you want to make.
The Chinese New Year of the Goat just arrived on February 19. Astrologer Austin Coppock gave an east Asian take on the coming year in an e-newsletter: “The year [of the goat] is given to the Wood element. Wood energy seeks growth and expansion. It is life affirming and ambitious, and is associated with a benevolent emotional state. However, when growth is blocked wood energy becomes angry, frustrated and destructive. The year of the Wood Sheep thus counsels thoughtful expansion. Taking on too many new things, or projects that are too ambitious, is a key temptation. Instead, make steady progress. Get rich slow. But not too slow. While it’s important not to expand too quickly, it’s also important to give the year’s expansive energy an outlet. What you water and feed will grow strong–so choose wisely.”
Throughout this whole week, particularly from February 20-26, Venus and Mars are conjunct in early Aries (from 0-7 degrees). Venus and Mars combined excite and encourage creativity, merging, and being more social. This combined male and female symbolism stirs up passion and sexual expression. Mars dominates the pair in Aries, the sign Mars rules; the combination can be violent if overheated, so stay cool. Use this creative fire to get things moving in your life. It could be a good time to take some risks, especially social risks that might normally be out of your comfort zone. Express yourself passionately.
The Moon is VoC for 24 hours from Saturday evening, February 21 to Sunday evening (4:36 PM Saturday-4:28 PM Sunday Pacific Time). Take a vigorous hike on Sunday. Then with the Moon in pleasure-seeking Taurus Sunday evening, savor a delicious dinner at a beautifully set table while you enjoy the splendor of the Academy Awards. Get in the spirit of celebrating artistic achievement. A good tandem activity is to marvel at your own accomplishments and adventures, or to trade reflections with others present.
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week are dynamic days for making a lot happen. Tuesday and Thursday are meandering days for incubating ideas rather than pushing definition, as the Moon is Void-of-Course all day these days. In addition the Moon is void almost all next weekend from 9:53 Am Saturday through 3:34 PM Sunday (Pacific Time). The alternating weekdays afford a natural rhythm to crescendo toward the coming, final destiny of the Uranus-Pluto squares that have informed our lives and this blog for several years. PUSH one day, re-gather the next. Forge and temper. Sprint and rest. Be definitive…be reflective.
Monday’s Moon in Taurus slows things down and supports practicality and deliberate, careful action. The day’s biggest offering is a Sun-Saturn square that rewards discipline and the determined, waxing effects of small-action steps. The Moon’s trine to Pluto enables emotional clarity and order.
Another long VoC Moon period arrives Monday evening at 6:57 PM Pacific Time and continues through Tuesday evening at 8:54 PM (Pacific). Thus, Tuesday is a completely VoC day. Create beauty through puttering, gardening, or re-arranging. Avoid meetings and decision making. Nonetheless, a Venus-Saturn trine affords a sensible approach to financial and relational matters.
Wednesday and Thursday the Moon is in curious Gemini, when ideas flow freely through conversation and the flurry of activity. Wednesday is completely loaded with aspects both benefic and challenging. A crowning aspect is the Sun conjunct Neptune, one that fosters vision and dreaming a beautiful future. Mars-trine-Saturn fosters planning and giving structure to make those dreams come true. This is one very dynamic day so make the most of its abundant offerings.
Thursday is a much quieter day, but a lunar sextile to Jupiter aids the Gemini Moon’s free flow of brilliant ideas. Gather yourself in reflection. Re-load.
Friday through Sunday afternoon the Moon is in Cancer, symbolizing home and family…emotional ties and pulls. Like Wednesday, Friday is packed with aspects both benefic and challenging. The Moon is in a cardinal sign, calling for action—particularly nurturing and caring action. Lunar trines to the Sun and Neptune in the evening encourage a gracious, comfortable evening with family or close friends. Harkening back to Wednesday, for instance, one might bring the focus of change internal, followed by turning to focus on Friday to one’s social sphere.
Saturday morning brings the weekly lunar spotlight on the ever-tightening Uranus-Pluto conjunction. This dynamic combination may deliver strong emotions that may inform a call for big change. The opposition to Pluto Saturday morning (9:53 AM Pacific) ushers in a very long Moon Void-of-Course period through 3:34 PM Sunday. Give yourself plenty of time for contemplation and tuning into your emotional needs. It’s not a day for clarity and decision making, but one for opening up to the information coming from your feelings. This is not a weekend to overschedule or be ambitious, but to stay home and incubate that which you will deliver unto yourself in the weeks to come…years to come. Focus on the future.
Brilliant ideas and enlightening conversations burst forth Sunday from Mercury’s aspects to creative Uranus and expansive Jupiter. The weekend ends on a playful note with the Moon’s arrival in the sign of Leo tropically Sunday evening. Enjoy a creative and playful evening with your children or grandchildren.
These Mercury-Jupiter dynamics assist the extremely creative Jupiter-Uranus trine that will be exact Tuesday, March 3. This glorious trine–that offers magnanimous possibilities—will be in effect for a full week from February 28-March 7. This is an aspect of good luck and opportunities. You’ll increase your “good luck” by seizing opportunities and expanding your life through discovery, risk taking and travel. How can you express yourself more exuberantly? More expansively? Time to create magic and glow in your life!

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
