In the Stars September 13-20, 2015…shining light on the astrology of the week: Solar Eclipse

This post is delivered to your “in” box exactly on the Solar Eclipse with the Sun and Moon at 20:10 degrees of Virgo. It’s an active, full week in the alignments and shifts in the stars, with Mercury turning retrograde, and Saturn and Ceres turning direct. When planets change directional motion, they are moving very slowly and amplifying their energy, so expect this to be one very dynamic week…perhaps one that can change your life. Make it so in the best possible ways. This is the month for self-improvement. There are 10 more days with the Sun in Virgo tropically; so make a push during this week to put your life in better order. Clean and organize your house, and attack your “to do” list with vigor.

The weekend from early morning Friday through Sunday evening is guided by a Virgo Moon, the time of the month to put greater order in your life and complete awaiting tasks. There’s a partial Solar Eclipse at 20 degrees of Virgo—exact at 11:41 PM PDT Saturday night or at 2:41 AM Sunday EDT. Eclipse effects may show up for about three months before to three months after the actual eclipse. They can mark major beginnings and endings, and can deliver unexpected events during the weeks before or after. Chiron is closely tied into this eclipse, exactly opposite the Sun and Moon, so we may be able to tune in to exactly what we need to heal our lives now. Solar eclipses are New Moons that symbolize new beginnings. Virgo symbolizes health and self-improvement. Take some action to improve your health and wellness. If you’ve been thinking about starting or expanding an exercise regime, then this would be an excellent week to start–best on Sunday or Monday. If you’ve been thinking about taking steps to improve your diet or lose weight, there’s no better time! There’s plenty of intense, grounded energy to get a lot accomplished this weekend. Capitalize on the extra strong energy on Sunday to clean and make your house and life sparkle with order!

Monday is Rosh Hashanah, a holy day in the Jewish tradition that symbolizes repenting for any wrongs or regrets in the year past, making peace in the community, and pondering how to be a better person in the year ahead. The success or heuristic value of this annual sacred ritual turns on one’s ability to recognize and admit when one has been wrong and harmed another, and to be able to admit that and ask forgiveness. These ablutions are not encouraged in American society in general, and thus it can be very uplifting to adhere to the dictates of Rosh Hashanah whether one is Jewish or not.

Monday and Tuesday the Moon is in Libra. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus and symbolizes beauty and harmony. Libra follows Virgo in the zodiac. A progression of focus is to beautify after you have cleaned and organized. For example, once you have cleaned and organized your home, then make it sparkle with fresh flowers, or a new lamp or bedspread. Or, once you have cleaned up your diet and started exercising, then it’s time to upgrade your wardrobe. The order and improvement come first, followed by the zodiacal directive to beautify.

Ceres, the largest asteroid, stations direct at 25 Capricorn on Monday. Ceres in the horoscope describes the ways we handle self-worth, attachment, rejection, grief, and giving and receiving nurturing. Ceres in Capricorn symbolizes self-worth through accomplishment, taking responsibility, and teaching or calling on others to be self-reliant. The Ceres station this week further emphasizes the call for productivity and achievement. There are several aspects to the Moon on Tuesday, but the one that packs the biggest punch is an opposition to Uranus. This calls out independence and variance in our activities and approaches. The numerous aspects to the Libra Moon focus our energies on relationships and bringing more harmony and balance into our lives.

Jupiter is exactly opposite Neptune on Wednesday, an expansive aspect that activates our imaginations toward realizing our ideals. There’s plenty of practical, productive work energy in the stars now, so allow this Jupiter-Neptune opposition to stretch you into transcendent realms. This aspect colors the whole week and beyond, but it’s exactitude on Wednesday calls for a special meditation on what is possible.

Mercury goes retrograde on Thursday, ushering in a three-week period to review, re-think, revise, and renovate. Re-work what is already in motion rather than starting something new. This is not a good time for signing contracts, as you may later change your mind. There are many astral aspects on Thursday, just loading the day with activities. Considering that the Moon is in Scorpio, deep feelings may be stirred. The other highlight of the day is Saturn’s movement into Sagittarius. Saturn has now finished its retrograde back into Scorpio and will be in Sagittarius through December 2017. Higher education, cultural diversity, and religious freedom will be highlighted. We may have a greater desire for travel or study with purpose.

There is a long Void Moon on Friday from 12:49-8:32 PM. Get things accomplished in the morning that require definition and decision, and free yourself in the afternoon for meandering. With the intensity of Mercury, Saturn, and Ceres stationary, the long Void Moon period Friday evening, and the First Quarter Moon midway between the Solar and Lunar Eclipse, it’s best to take it easy. It may be best just to enjoy some quiet time and a good movie. That is a huge amount of astral activity, and too much ambition can overwhelm.

Saturday and Sunday the Moon is in sunny Sagittarius, a welcome arrival of positive, adventurous energy. On Saturday the Moon squares the Jupiter-Neptune opposition, so we may feel scattered and overextended, though full of imagined possibilities. Sunday the Moon forms a glorious Grand Fire Trine with Venus in Leo and Uranus in Aries. Be adventurous. Take a hike in the awesome outdoors, and contemplate new paths to spiritual growth that leave small environmental footprints.

Moon Void-of-Course: This is the time when the Moon makes its last major angular aspect with a planet and before it moves into the next zodiacal sign tropically. This void time, when the Moon is not aspecting a planet, but rather floating on its own, is a time when things don’t come together and it’s difficult to make decisions. Purchases made during void Moons often turn out to be unsatisfactory and not work out. Appointments often don’t come together and meetings don’t result in progress or sound, lasting decisions. You will more easily get lost or meander if you’re trying to get somewhere. The VoC Moon times for the next month are listed below so that you can plan meetings, decisions, and purchases at times when the Moon is not VoC; and use the void times for gardening, reading, and routine task work.
